In consultation with the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), we are performing a recall for all batches of SPF50+ Mineral Bioactive Shield, Lightly Tinted Cream due to inconsistent SPF levels shown in independent testing.
In light of the recent retesting on people4ocean sunscreen products, which we proactively retested all our products to ensure they met, not only the industry and TGA standards, but also our exacting standards.
It was through this additional testing that an inconsistency with the SPF rating of our SPF50+ Mineral Bioactive Shield, Lightly Tinted Cream was identified. This testing has identified an SPF rating of 21. Because of this result, and in consultation with the TGA, we are recalling this product.
No other products in the people4ocean range are affected, reinforcing the confidence we have in these products. Purchases of SPF50+ Mineral Bioactive Shield, Lightly Tinted Cream will be eligible for a refund with proof of purchase and return of product to our location.

Why was the SPF 50+ Mineral Bioactive Shield Lightly Tinted Cream withdrawn?
As a primary sunscreen provider, the recent inconsistent independent lab test results revealed a Sun Protection Factor of 21, which didn’t meet our standards.
While other People4ocean products continue to test consistently, the Lightly Tinted Cream SPF 50+ Mineral Bioactive showed a pattern of variability that we were not comfortable with.

Have you ever had reports of sun burns with this product?
We have never received a report of a customer experiencing a sunburn using this product.

If I would like a replacement product, what do you recommend?
We recommend you replace it with our Pearlescent SPF 50 +Mineral Bioactive Shield.
This product is double the size at 80g and is not tinted. We are providing direct exchanges free of charge.
Will you provide a refund?
We will offer a refund to clients who fill out the return form and return their product between the dates of 2/10/2025 – 2/11/2025.

Who does the refund apply too?
To customers who return SPF 50+Mineral Bioactive Shield Lightly Tinted Cream product, provide a proof of purchase and it is not expired. No retrospective or already finished products are included in this refund.
How long will the refund process take to receive?
Please allow up to 30 business days from the date of your submission for the refund to be processed. Our aim is to complete the return process sooner, we need time to receive the product with your customer form, and verify proof of purchase.

Yes, no other product has been affected and maintains its TGA license. Our other products use a different formulation base and have also undergone further testing from alternative labs to confirm their SPF rating. This gives us confidence in the performance of our products.

No other product has been affected other than the SPF 50+ Mineral Bioactive Shield Lightly Tinted Cream and all other people4ocean products maintain their TGA license.
How are you ensuring the SPF testing is verified?
We are working with a new and wider
group of independent labs, all of which
have been audited by the BIPEA, an
organisation that ring-tests SPF testing
labs for accuracy.
Manufacturing has also done significant
research into the ISO 24444 method, and
our in-house Regulatory Team is closely
inspecting every result against the
standard.
Are you using the same third-party testing lab?
We are no longer using the original testing
lab.
What are you doing to make sure this never happens again?
We completely understand your concern around ensuring that this never happens again, and there are additional safeguards in place. Our entire range has recently been re-tested at independent third-party labs.
These labs have also been audited by
BIPEA, to ensure the laboratory is
providing reliable results.
Moving forward, we will be testing the
SPF protection of all products at certified independent labs, in addition we will maintain our formulations in lab testing for their shelf life to ensure that they provide consistent protection.
We are also working on the re-
development of our Lightly Tinted Mineral SPF 50 formulation to ensure the popular product is back on the market soon.
What is your manufacturing team doing to prevent any further and future issues?
Manufacturers have removed that formula from their offering.
They are partnering with multiple third-party testing labs to ensure that each product that enters the market provides the level of protection stated on every label.

How do you test your sunscreens now?
Every People4ocean sunscreen is tested
at independent, ISO-accredited labs. We
also maintain our products in ongoing lab
testing (the exact ones you’d buy), for
their shelf life to make sure they’re still
performing as promised.
Should I keep using Lightly Tinted Cream SPF if I still, have it?
We recommend you return.
The SPF 50+ Mineral Bioactive Shield Lightly Tinted Cream doesn’t provide SPF 50 protection, it has been confirmed to provide SPF 21.

How do you decide which filters to use?
We develop using the most efficacious and efficient filters based on research and continue to use Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide as our primary UV filters. While balancing cosmetic elegance, viscosity,
and overall formula style. We ensure we have an effective broad-spectrum UVA and UVB coverage.
A guiding formulation principle is protecting the skin health of our client and preservation of our marine eco-systems.
We use filter’s and ingredients that are known to be ocean and human conscious.
We also ensure that our SPF products are compliant with each region the product is available.
Will you be reformulating Lightly Tinted Cream SPF 50?
Yes, 100% - this is currently in process
and has been prioritised, and we are
working on a pure mineral, mattifying SPF
that is both ocean-conscious and
providing that lovely blurring effect to the
complexion.
We no longer use that base formula.
How can we, as consumers, know sunscreen is effective?
Our sunscreens undergo TGA and
international regulatory testing at
independent labs to ensure their
protection.
Our team also engages testing facilities
that are ISO accredited and BIPEA-
audited.
Can I decant my sunscreens without affecting effectiveness?
Do not decant your sunscreen! This
applies to any sunscreen – the product’s
packaging is specially designed and
tested to protect against light, air, and
heat, to ensure its stability.
Is SPF still effective even if it was shipped in the summer and exposed to hot temperatures?
Yes! As a part of the regulatory process,
all listed SPFs are stability tested to
withstand extreme temperatures
(45°C/113°F). This testing includes cold
temperature conditions.
